Welcome to Beta Version 3.14 of the Numbers website, where we are celebrating the world's top mathematical constants! It has been the project of two computer science students, one maths student, two professors, and a high school intern at Dalhousie University since the spring of 2006. Although it is still a work in progress, it should give you a good idea of what we have been up to all summer.
Inside you will find the 12 mathematical contestants scraping it out for the position of top dog. Each constant contains their own page advertising why they should reign supreme. These pages can be accessed either from the main page or from the battlefield: an interactive image of where they all reside on the number line. Each constant page contains a mix of instructive, entertaining, and visually impressive graphics and flash animations.
Also found on these pages are links to subpages exploring topics of related interest. This website exposes the beauty and ranging influence of mathematics, which connects to other areas in sometimes unexpected and really cool ways. It is sure to amaze a wide range of audiences, exposing even those normally tentative about maths to all sorts of interesting content they would never have the chance to explore inside a typical maths class.
So go play around! We hope you enjoy it as much as we had fun making it.
