Indigenising University Mathematics 4

17-18 July 2026 at ANU & online

Indigenising University Mathematics 4 (IUM4) will be held at The Australian National University (ANU), on the 17th and 18th of July 2026. This event is an international gathering with in-person moderation at ANU, Canberra, Australia, and facilitated moderation for those attending online.

This conference continues the journey from IUM1, 2 and 3, with this year's gathering takes the shape of a Symposium and Workshop focused on 'What is Indigenising University Mathematics'.

Isn't that what every IUM so far has been about, I hear you say?

YES! would be the simple answer... however, this year we are converging and concentrating our efforts to collectively contribute to some definitions, some principles and values, and possibly some points to start aligning a paradigm around what actually is this Indigenising things we have been talking about...

The event is aimed at a growing community of "Indigenising University Mathematics" engaged/interested people.

Our keynote speaker for the Symposium will be Dr Henry Fowler, an Indigenous Mathematician of the Navajo (Diné) nation. Henry will be in Australia for the month of July, engaging in various public events, information about which will be available and updated on the CARMA events page.

Preceding IUM4 will be an Indigenous-only community engagement event exploring the conceptualisation and practices of Indigenising anything.
